The answer is \u2018NO\u2019. This is because NRIs already pays their share of income tax in the country they work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What qualifies as an NRI?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Income tax department classifies an individual to be a non-resident when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You have been residing outside India for a period of 182 days or more during the relevant previous year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You haven\u2019t been present in India for 60 days or more during the last year and a combined total of 365 days or more during the last 4 years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.testserver.eminenture.co.in\/test\/services2nri-new\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/nri.jpg\" alt=\"NRI Tax\" class=\"wp-image-1251\" style=\"width:536px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.services2nri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/nri.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.services2nri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/nri-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>When do an NRI have to pay tax in India?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>An NRI can be taxed in India only on the capital gains he had with the investment in India.&nbsp;<\/em>So, for all the income he earned abroad he\u2019s not liable to pay any tax on it because it doesn\u2019t fall under Indian income tax acts but here are a few categories under which he\u2019s liable to pay income in India:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Salary:<\/strong>&nbsp;Salary which is earned in India under or income generated by a business in liable to pay tax in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Property and Assets:<\/strong>&nbsp;Any income or capital gain that has been generated from the sale, rent or leasing of a valued property or an asset based in India will be taxed as per the Income Tax act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Securities and Investments:<\/strong>&nbsp;Income or capital gains earned investments are also liable to be taxed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conditions for Income Tax<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are qualified to pay taxes when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The taxable income of the NRI in India during that financial year is more than 2.5 lakh INR, which is the new exempted limit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must have earned capital gains from the sale of any investment or property, even if the gains are less than the exemption limit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many agencies\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.services2nri.com\/\">providing NRI services in India<\/a>.
