What if you get your degree & certificates torn and tattered in a bag?

Such circumstances raise goose bumps because your career would be at stake then. You can’t be able to show off what you’ve attained in your school and college. So, what do you do if you lose your degree certificate?

Let us solve this puzzle for you. Follow these steps if you want the duplicates of your original degrees and certificate.

Be calm. Don’t lose your temper. You need to put some efforts in getting your valuable assets. These steps will be your guide to come out of this dilemma of lost school & college certificate.

  1. Lodge an FIR:

Go to the police station and lodge a complaint about the lost documents. This complaint will be treated as an FIR. Carefully mention each degree/certificate that is lost. Then, you can heave a sigh of relief since you’ve informed the competent authority. If anyone takes advantage from the stolen documents, you won’t be held accountable for that offense.

There are a few metropolitan cities like Delhi, where you can lodge an online complaint about the same. So, you can check this alternative as well.

  1. Get a non-traceable certificate from police:

The non-traceable certificate reads the message of no traceability by the police. It is issued by the local police station. Let’s say, you lost your certificate in Tamil Nadu, the sheriff will issue it after acting upon your complaint of the lost degree certificates. You can show it along with the application form to re-withdraw your degrees from the university/school.

  1. Publish in the local newspaper:

You need to make a public announcement of your lost documents. Visit to any local newspaper headquarter. Make sure that it would be published in it. This would be a handy proof to show at the immigration office (if you’re going to the foreign for studying).

  1. Withdraw an affidavit:

As per the legislation, the complainant can get an affidavit from the court. The statement on this legislative note goes as the complainant has lost the school/college documents. Despite searching a lot, the complainant failed to find them.

Afterward, the affidavit will be notarized. Visit the notary officer. He/she will attest it. Thereby, you would have the legal proof of the lost degrees.

  1. Apply at the school/college.

Now, you would have every essential document that is requisite for filing an application at the school or college for issuing the replica of the original documents. Ask the authority for an application form to make a request for withdrawing the lost degrees & certificate. Fill it while thoroughly understanding the guidelines. Get it done & submit with the affidavit.

The issuing authority of the school or college does provide this facility on some charges. Or, you can call it a ‘paid service’ for which you have to spend. Subsequently, the authority attests the certificates similar to the originals.

However, this process is tedious. You may undergo psychological trauma until you’re done with the foretold process. But, this is the only way to get the replica of your mark-sheet, provisional certificates, and degrees. You can’t get off these fatigues steps to get your valuable certificates of schooling and graduation/post-graduation.
