“Great cry and little wool”-have you heard this proverb?

This saying proves appropriate in the case of NRIs employment. Millions of men of skills go abroad every year. They want to earn in dollars, rather than being salaried in rupees. Their dream is to touch the height. But, this dream sometimes turns into a nightmare.   It’s all because of the appreciating number of challenges. They counter with such conditions where they find trapped in. Consequently, their career takes a downturn.

What are these NRI problems that often emerge during employment in the foreign-let’s get through this run down:

Challenges:

1. Unexpected Ban: It’s a dramatic scenario wherein the citizens of certain countries can be deported or banned. During 2017, the Trump administration in the US prohibited nationals of eight countries to enter American territory. Most of them were Islamic countries. Such kind of bans often ends in a massive monitory loss for the salaried NRIs.
2. Immigration policy amendments: Unauthorized stay, which is an outcome of overstaying visa period, often becomes a point of contention for the foreign government. A study by the Pew Research Center in 2016 spotlighted as many as five lakh undocumented NRIs in the US. To counter this problem, the Trump ministry endorsed a new deportation policy.

Its consequences encapsulated those efficient NRIs whose legal status to stay in America had expired for the reasons, such as a rejected visa extension application or change in status. It gave a sudden jolt to the career of NRIs who were planning to extend their tenure. Such non-residents had to drive back to India. Here they looked for the most sought-after govt. jobs or compromised with private employment.

3. Documentation: Documentation is a vital step to ensure stay abroad. As many as 800,000 young Indians were shielded under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. They were under 16 when their guardians brought them to the US. Being raised and educated there, many of them considered themselves as American.

But, it was a big mistake. The USCIS cancelled this program, deporting approximately 6, 90,000 unauthorized NRIs. After deportation, the brainy NRIs were left with the opportunities to make a career in the latest govt naukri, as an IAS, IFS, DSSSB or railways. On the flip side, the rest had to struggle a lot for settling from scratch.

4. Amended benefiting policies: Many foreign governments offer Medicaid facility. It’s one of the biggest reasons to emigrate abroad. This healthcare facility assists low-income families or individuals with medical insurance benefits.

But, an uncertain termination of this facility created a rift.  The undocumented immigrants will not be able to access medical assistance. Simply put, they have to die younger than those of the natives of that country. On seeing it a major concern, the Indian diaspora has to re-start their career in India.

5. Loan: Many aspiring candidates take a loan with the view to pay back on getting a good job in the foreign. Despite the fact that education in abroad is not an economic option. They pursue. But, the things get worse when no job opportunity instantly comes their way after study. It creates a bittern scenario wherein the aspirant gives up his career there. Alternatively, he switches to seeking employment opportunities in the government or the private sector.

 Besides, the episodes of discrimination are common there. However, it doesn’t fit in all employment cases. But, many emigrants come across this reality, especially in the US, the UK and Australia. The foreign governments mould their immigration policies with the scope of benefiting their permanent residents. This practice, to a certain extent, causes a big damage to the skilled men of India.
